Get Involved

Birds face threats from many sources including climate change, habitat loss and poisoning from chemical contamination of their food and water. There are several things that any individual can do to help the birds in their community. Educating oneself and others about the risks to birds as well as speaking out for the birds are two ways to help, but creating a bird friendly habitat in one's own yard or neighborhood can be fun and rewarding to both people and birds.

Contact

The Duval Audubon Society is a chapter of the National Audubon Society in Northeast Florida. With over 1,350 members and supporters from Clay, Duval, and Nassau Counties, we host monthly informational meetings, host special events, and offer volunteer opportunities.

Become a Member - Join Audubon

Audubon is one of the most respected conservation organizations in the world, and our local chapter is an all-volunteer non-profit group that works hard to protect important habitat in our area and the bird species and wildlife that use them.

Volunteer Opportunities

Assist with other volunteers in staffing the Duval Audubon booth at local events and festivals. Have fun interacting with the public while providing valuable education about birds and the environment. Experience or prior training is not necessary, and all materials/information provided. Contact community outreach director Johnna Bellen at duvalaudubon@gmail.com for more information.

Activities

Our top priority in the field is to approach birds with their health and safety in mind. Please read the American Birding Association's statement of birding ethics at ABA Birding Ethics. We have some great outings and activities planned for throughout the year

Events

We are trying a hybrid approach, with some in-person programs and some virtual programs, depending on the availability and preferences of the speakers. Our virtual Zoom platform has enabled us to present some amazing speakers not based in Northeast Florida, so this hybrid approach will allow us to offer a wider range of programs and presentations than relying on locally available speakers alone.

Take Action

Much has happened over the last several years, and now is the time to stop and assess how well our government has met our goals: OUR goals, the will of the people. Nothing is more important than electing representatives at all levels who will promote the values of the majority. But our government does not know the will of the people if we don't vote! Voting, especially in Florida where so many elections are very close, is our most important way of declaring our sentiments and strongest beliefs.
